Early Life

Tynisha Soares was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of Richard Garcia (died 1986) and Elisa Smith Soares. She is of Portuguese descent. Keli came from a poverty stricken home and struggled financially for most of her life. She has a brother, Timothy Soares, a half brother Tazmyn Michael Soares (born June 23, 1989 - December 21, 2007), and one half sister, Tay'le Rudolph (born 1992). Her father was killed when she was barely a year old. She had big responsibilities as a kid. At age of 8 years old, she accepted music into her life in such a major way because it was her only outlet, her way of letting out the frustrations she had. She started singing professionally around the age of 14. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she lived for seven years, before moving to Atlanta. Her younger brother, Tazmyn Soares was killed at age of 18 in Boston in December 2007.
