Tanit Phoenix (born 24 September 1980)[2][3] is a South African model[4] and actress.[5]

Personal life

Tanit Phoenix was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Phoenix is a vegan, is studying to be a vegan nutritionist and is a qualified hypnotherapist.[6][7][8] She enrolled in ballet from the age of 5 and danced for 15 years and trains in Muay Thai.[9] Tanit resides alternately in Cape Town and Los Angeles.[10] She is currently in a relationship with actor Sharlto Copley.[11]

Modeling career

Phoenix began her career at the age of 15 and has appeared in commercials for Adidas, American Swiss Jewellery, Nivea, Alberto VO5, Aria, Transition Lenses,[12] Volvic, Veet and for the Distractions lingerie campaign.[13][14]

She has worked as an international fashion model for Munich Models, Storm (London), Why Not Model Agency (Milan), Model Management (Hamburg), Ice Model Management (Cape Town), Click models (Los Angeles) and Success Models (Paris).

Phoenix appeared in the European TV ad for Fa shower gel, skydiving topless. She was then chosen to be the cover girl for German Maxim after being named "Who's That Girl?" at the Woman of the Year German Maxim awards in 2003, and then appeared in American Maxim the year after.[1][15]

She has appeared on the cover of Cosmopolitan,[16] FHM, [17] Legacy,[18] Indwe,[19] Marie Claire,[20] Shape and GQ magazines,[21] and has frequently been shot for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.[22][23][24]

Acting career

Phoenix began her acting career with a brief appearance as one of Jared Leto's girlfriends in the 2005 Lord of War, and the Canadian mystery series Charlie Jade as Malachi's associate in the episode "Things Unseen".[25] In 2007 she filmed a role in Gallowwalker, opposite Wesley Snipes. The film was not released until it went to video in 2013.[26] In 2008 she appeared in the erotic thriller Kamasutra Nights.[27]

In 2010, she starred in the horror film Lost Boys: The Thirst[28] and the action film Death Race: Frankenstein Lives opposite Sean Bean, Ving Rhames and Danny Trejo.[29] That year she also appeared in the comedy Spud opposite John Cleese.

In 2011, Phoenix appeared in a contemporary Soft-core adult film noir series, Femme Fatales,[30] for Cinemax/HBO, where she is the narrator of the show and appears for a snippet of every episode.;[31] the series was renewed for a second season that aired in 2012. She also had a minor role in Safe House, and plays the sexy antagonist alongside Leon Schuster in the 2012 movie Mad Buddies. Phoenix was rumored to be in consideration for the title role in the TV series version of Wonder Woman, but the role ultimately went to actress Adrianne Palicki.

Phoenix also was seen in Death Race: Inferno, released in January 2013 and reprises her role as Eve Wilson in Spud 2: The Madness Continues.[32]
