British? Not Scottish?

No. Although there's a rebellion brewing over there, Scottland is a country that is currently still occupied (among other chosen few like Northern Ireland) by the British Empire, aka UK. Those countries are called constituent countries, which means their citizens were made over the years into British citizens.
