Gisele Caroline Bündchen[1] (Portuguese pronunciation: [ʒiˈzɛli ˈbĩtʃẽ]; born 20 July 1980)[2] is a Brazilian model, occasional film actress and goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme.

In the late 1990s, Bündchen became one of the first in a wave of Brazilian models to find success. In 1999, Vogue magazine dubbed her "The Return of the Sexy Model" and she was credited with ending the "heroin chic" era of modeling.

Bündchen was one of Victoria's Secret Angels from 2000 until 2007. Since 2001, she has been the highest-paid model in the world[3] and the sixteenth richest woman in the entertainment industry with an estimated $150 million fortune.[4] Models Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, have argued that Bündchen is the only true remaining "supermodel."

As an occasional actress, she had supporting roles in the movie Taxi (2004) opposite comedian Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah and The Devil Wears Prada (2006).

Personal life

From 2000 to 2005, Bündchen was in a much-publicized relationship with American actor Leonardo DiCaprio.[5] In 2004, Bündchen and DiCaprio made People's annual Most Beautiful Couples List.[6] After experiencing a period of depression, Bündchen decided to end her relationship with DiCaprio after she felt their lifestyles no longer complemented, saying in her memoir Lessons, "[...] I was becoming more and more aware of things that I’d chosen not to look at. Was I alone in wanting to do some serious soul-searching while he stayed the same? In the end, unfortunately, the answer was yes."[5]

In late 2006, Bündchen began dating NFL quarterback Tom Brady,[7] after a mutual friend introduced them on a blind date.[8] The couple married on February 26, 2009 in a small ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California.[9] In April 2009, the couple had a second marriage ceremony, in Costa Rica.[10] Bündchen and Brady have two children: son Benjamin Rein (born 2009),[11] and daughter Vivian Lake (born 2012).[12] She is stepmother to Brady's first son from a previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.[13][14] She married New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in 2009.
