Deborah Ann Woll is an American actress. She is best know for playing Jessica Hamby on True Blood and Karen Page on Daredevil. She has also starred in the films Mother's Day (2010), Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You (2011), Catch .44 (2011), Ruby Sparks (2012), Meet Me in Montenegro (2014), The Automatic Hate (2015), and Escape Room (2019).
Career
Woll attended the University of Southern California’s School of Theatre, graduating with her BFA in 2007.[3] Woll began her career in guest starring roles in several hit television series in 2007,[4] including Life (2007), ER (2008), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2008), My Name Is Earl (2008), The Mentalist (2008), and had a supporting role in the action-adventure television film Aces 'N' Eights (2008).
In 2008, she landed her breakout role as Jessica Hamby on True Blood. She originally joined as a recurring character in the first season, but was promoted to a regular cast member for the second season onwards.[5] Woll maintained the role of Jessica until the series' ending in 2014. While shooting for True Blood, Woll began getting parts in feature-length independent films, appearing in her first in 2011 called Mother's Day.
In 2015, Woll's career got another major boost as she began portraying Karen Page in Marvel's Netflix Universe, first in Daredevil with subsequent appearances in the series The Punisher and The Defenders. Since the completion of the final season of Daredevil and Disney's subsequent purchase of the Marvel imprint, Woll has had trouble finding acting work.[6]
Woll enjoys the table-top game Dungeons and Dragons. She regularly appears at convetions, and has parlayed that into television work. In 2019, she was the Dungeon Master of the Geek & Sundry show Relics and Rarities, which used a modified version of the game. Unfortunately, the show was not picked up for a second season.[7] Woll is currently working on an independent action thriller with actor Josh Hartnett, called Ida Red, which is due out some time in 2021.
Personal Life
Woll is married to her long-time partner, comedian E.J. Scott. The two began dating in 2007 and married in 2018. Scott has choroideremia, a condition that ultimately results in blindness, and Woll uses her platform to help raise awareness of the disease. She regularly auctions fan items from her films and television roles on Ebay for charity going to the disease's research.[8] The items are often previewed on Woll's Instagram. Woll battles celiac disease.
