Christina Mendez was born March 13, 1981[1] to Dominican parents and resides in New York City. She is a plus-size model, celebrity interviewer and actress.[1]
Early Life
Mendez was born and raised in New York, NY. She graduated from Humanities High School in NYC and later attended Morris Brown University in Atlanta, Ga.
Mendez desired to become a top model when she was a teenager.[2] She began her modeling career in 1993.[3] Her career was paused following the birth of her son. Although Mendez gave birth to a healthy baby boy, she was informed that he was autistic and would need twenty-four hour care. Doctors told Mendez that her son would never be able to speak or to eat alone.[3]
Mendez became active with Autism Speaks. She participated in the Autism Speaks Walk in 2006 with the Manhatttan Boro President.[3] After ten years, Mendez's son transitioned and is able to speak, sing, read and write.[3]
Mendez also served as a national board member for Hispanic Support Organization (HSO). Her work through HSO includes the organization of a scholarship gala for New York Area students, working with Habitat for Humanity, and involvement in Dress for Success campaigns.[3]
In 2006, Mendez returned to her modeling career. She was featured on the BET Rip the Runway Model Search. Mendez was one of four models picked from among thousands of hopefuls.[2] As the only plus sized model, she opened the "Size Sexy" portion of the show.[2] In 2008, Mendez was chosen to be the Venus Diva Cover Model, an annual contest for the Venus Divas Plus Size Magazine.[4]
Mendez is the celebrity interviewer for The VIP Section. Mendez interviews industry artists, focusing on current trends and fashions.[5]
Modeling Career
Mendez is signed to Goddess, the plus sized division of Model Service Agency in NYC.[2]
Mendez has modeled for Lane Bryant, All You Magazine, PLUS Model Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Undiscovered Magazine, St. Louis American, Venus Diva Magazine, SKORCH Magazine, Akua Magazine, Queens Tribune. Her runway shows include BET Presents: Rip The Runway, Lane Bryant In-Store Promotional Fashion Show, Art of Curves Fashion Show, Hampton University's Rip The Runway Fashion Show and many more. Mendez was also selected to be the featured model for designers such as Apple Bottoms, Dereon, Rocawear, Baby Phat, Qristly Frazier Designs, BLUR Custom Dezigns, Abby Z and Bed Of Rose.[1]
Ms. Mendez has moved into the television and film market. Christina recently landed a position as Celebrity Interviewer for one of the hottest hip-hop shows “The VIP Section TV”. She’s interviewed celebrities such as Slim Thug, Jazmine Sullivan, Young Berg, Skillz, Jo De La Rosa and many more. Christina is also busy working on her first featured film which is scheduled to begin filming in October 2008.
Mendez has also appeared in various television fashion segments. These segments include the Rachel Ray Show, Fox News, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, and Univision Morning news.
