  • how to add a photographer to an article without mentioning his name in the text,
  • how to create a photographer page.

Inserting a photographer's name using the photographer template

Functionality

The photographer template

  • automatically displays a link to the photographer's article if it exists,
  • displays only normal text if the photographer does not have an article yet, but will automatically turn into a link if such an article is created,
  • automatically displays further information on the photographer (home page link, location) if you activate this feature,
  • automatically displays new photographer data in your article if it changes (e. g. new home page) so that you will never have to rewrite your article,
  • automatically adds a category to your article so that your model is listed on the photographer's page,
  • offers the possibility to suppress the category addition to an article,
  • displays an error if you do not specify a name.

Syntax

The syntax is very simple:

{{photographer|<name>|link=<text>|location=<text>|nocategory=<text>}}

name

  • Text. The name of the photographer.
  • Required.
  • Please note that this parameter has no name. Simply type the photographer's name without a parameter name.

link

  • Any text. You can use "1", "y" or whatever you like. As soon as the parameter has any content, the home page link is displayed.
  • Optional. <text> or the whole parameter link=<text> can be omitted.

location

  • Any text. You can use "1", "y" or whatever you like. As soon as the parameter has any content, the location is displayed.
  • Optional. <text> or the whole parameter location=<text> can be omitted.

nocategory

  • Any text. You can use "1", "y" or whatever you like. As soon as the parameter has any content, no category is added to your article. This may be helpful if you use the template on a page that is not intended to be listed in the photographer's article (e. g. if you just mention a photographer on a discussion page).
  • Optional. <text> or the whole parameter nocategory=<text> can be omitted.

Examples

Article exists
{{photographer|Martin Perreault}} Martin Perreault
{{photographer|Martin Perreault|link=1}} Martin Perreault
{{photographer|Martin Perreault|link=ok|location=y}} Martin Perreault
{{photographer|Martin Perreault|location=yes}} Martin Perreault
Article does not exist
{{photographer|The Honorable|link=1|location=1}} The Honorable
Required and optional parameters
{{photographer|link=1|location=1}} {{{1}}}

Usability

There are no restrictions. The template can be used anywhere within the text of an article.

You should, however, be aware that the layout of your text may change in an undesirable way if you specify all parameters for a photographer who has not a page yet. The simple sentence

"Hexvoodoo always wanted to start a career as a photographer."

can become

"Hexvoodoo (home page), Boobtown, Boobland always wanted to start a career as a photographer."

if he really gets an article some day. :-)

Adding a photographer to an article without mentioning him in the text

If you do not want to mention the photographer' name in the text of your article, but would like your model to be listed on the photographer's page, just add a category at the end of your page: The syntax is very simple:

[[Category:<name>]]

name

  • Text. The name of the photographer.

Your model will be automatically listed on the photographer's page.

Note: The photographer page must exist! Otherwise a category link to a non-existing page will be created in your model's page. For more information on how to a photographer page, see below: Creating a photographer page

Creating a photographer page

If you want to create a photographer page that automatically lists the models that have his name mentioned in their article, you cannot just create an article. There are certain steps that have to be followed. You have to

  • create a template for the photographer,
  • create a page for the photographer,
  • create a category for the photographer.

You can use the buttons below to create all three and follow the instructions given on the respective new pages.

Template

The template contains the data of the photographer and is responsible for showing it in the text of an article.

  • Use the input box below to create a new template for your photographer.
  • Note: Do not delete the "Template:" prefix in the input box!
  • Follow the instructions given on the new page and return to this page when you are done.
  • Follow the next two steps.

Page

The page is needed for links to the photographer and if someone types the name in the search box. It simply redirects to the category page of the photographer.

  • Use the input box below to create a new page for your photographer.
  • Follow the instructions given on the new page and return to this page when you are done.
  • Follow the next step.

Category

This is the "main" page of the photographer. You can edit it like you are used to edit articles. You can add a biobox and all the information you want to provide about the photographer. The models who have the photographer's name mentioned in their article (if the photographer template has been used) will automatically appear below the text of your new page.

  • Use the input box below to create a new category for your photographer.
  • Note: Do not delete the "Category:" prefix in the input box!
  • Remember to add [[Category:Photographers]] to your new page so that it is listed in the Photographers category.
  • Known problems: If the automatically generated list of models on your page has several columns, the will overlay the biobox in certain cases. Workaround: Add as many <br> tags at the end of your article as needed to "push" the model list down until it does not overlay the biobox any longer.
