Gemma Merna is a British actress, who is mainly known for her role in the Hollyoaks TV series.

Gemma Ann Merna (born 11 October 1984 in Cleethorpes, England) is an English actress. She is known for playing Carmel Valentine in Hollyoaks.

Awards

For her role in the British Channel 4 series Hollyoaks, which was Gemma Merna's first major TV role, she won Best Comedy Performance in the 2007 The British Soap Awards.[1]

In the same year's National Television Awards, she was nominated for Best Female Soap Actress.

Gemma also gave awards out along with Alan Hinkes at the Kirkby Suite, Kirkby, Liverpool for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme on 14 October 2009.

Personal life

Merna was born in Cleethorpes but when she was 1 year old she moved to Didsbury Manchester where both of her parents are from. She has two older brothers Stephen and Leigh and a younger sister Katie. She is engaged to long term boyfriend Ian Minton and they are getting married in the Summer of 2011 with Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes Fisher), Leah Hackett (Tina McQueen), Claire Cooper (Jacqui McQueen), and Nicole Barber-Lane (Myra McQueen) as bridesmaids.

Gemma used to share a house in Liverpool with on-screen sister Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes Fisher.

On Sky Sports, Gemma revealed that she is a split supporter of both Manchester United F.C. and Liverpool F.C.

In a 2009 interview with Closer magazine she said that having a breast enlargement at the age of twenty-one was one of the best things she ever did and said it gave her so much confidence.[2]
