Kathy Willets (born Katherine Ann Morris on April 24, 1958) is a former stock broker turned American pornstar and escort, who was married to Jeffrey "Jeff" Willets. She gained considerable fame (or notoriety) during her arrest and subsequent trial in the early 1990s. Police began investigating her activities after an elderly client decided that he wanted Kathy all to himself, and mistakenly thought that going to the police would allow him to have her all to himself, not thinking that once he did go to the police, she would be investigated, and if charges were deemed appropriate, she would be charged with a crime. In July of 1991, the Willetses were both arrested. Kathy was charged with prostitution, while Jeff was charged with living off the proceeds of prostitution; both were also charged with illegal wiretapping. As details of the case emerged, a media frenzy centered around south Florida. Not only was Jeff Willets a deputy sheriff for Broward County, but the evidence seized included videotapes, notebooks, and other information that indicated that several of Kathy's "clients" had been prominent, wealthy members of the area's social and political scene.

Media exposure

Her story was carried on every major news program, and it caused a stir internationally. Her fame was so large that she actually received mail from foreign countries that were addressed only to "Kathy Willets, Fla. USA." Her exposure included shows on A&E, City Confidential, American Justice;, Court TV, CNN, MSNBC, "E" Channel, Fox News, UPN Extra, Hard Copy, Current Affair, Maury Povich, Geraldo, Jenny Jones, Sally Jessy Raphael, Sonya Live, and Larry King Live.

She was featured in Playboy, (Turkey) Playboy, Hustler, Gent, Score, High Society, Screw Magazine, Time, People, Newsweek, Woman's Day. International Publications: News of the World (London), Sun, Stern (Germany), numerous newspapers all around the world, Phillipines, Singapore, too many to name.

She had a song written about her, by the group "Strych-nine" on their Album Cardiac Arrest. The straight world movie "Animal Instincts" was based on her story. Kathy was even featured on "Mr. Blackwell's" list of worst-dressed women.

Trial

During the trial, Kathy offered a unique defense. Her attorney, Ellis Rubin, claimed that Kathy was a nymphomaniac, driven by her uncontrollable need for sex. (Part of this novel defense claimed that Kathy's nymphomania was the result of her taking the anti-depressant medication Prozac.) Additionally, her husband was not able to satisfy her constant demands. During many of her encounters, Jeff Willets allegedly hid in a bedroom closet and videotaped the acts. The couple also reportedly recorded telephone calls with clients and kept detailed notes on their identity, sexual acts performed, and fees charged.

The contents of the so-called "little black book" caused an enormous uproar. Several panicked legal motions were filed to prevent its contents from being publicly released, but they were denied. One of the more prominent people named was conservative Fort Lauderdale Vice Mayor Doug Danziger, who had ironically led a campaign against topless bars and other adult-oriented businesses in the area. He resigned in disgrace shortly after being linked to the Willetses.

She eventually changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced to two years in state prison, seven months of which she served. Jeff Willets was sentenced to state prison for 5 years, and was released after 6 months. He never returned to law-enforcement work.

Talk show appearances

After the conclusion of the trial, Kathy capitalized on her infamy by appearing on numerous talk shows; her exposure included shows on A&E, City Confidential, American Justice;, Court TV, CNN, MSNBC, "E" Channel, Fox News, UPN Extra, Hard Copy, Current Affair, Maury Povich, Geraldo, Jenny Jones, Sally Jessy Raphael, Sonya Live, and Larry King Live.

Feature dancing

She began dancing as a stripper, but when she appeared throughout the US, she broke all records for attendance at every Gentlemans Club at which she danced, to the point that owners actually paid her more than what their contract called for. When she performed in West Palm Beach Fla., everyone of her shows were sold out, and the Fire Department threatend to close them down for having too many people in the club. People were bused in from Jacksonville, Florida, for her shows, in which her performances could only be described as a feeding frenzy.

Arrest

Kathy was arrested two years in a row during her performances at "T's," a gentleman's club in West Palm Beach, Florida, for giving a lewd performance. Just as in her original court case, where she had stood up for the rights of a woman to do with her body as she so desired, and had refused to back down to the male-dominated societial rules, demanding that the men also be charged in her prostitution case, Kathy fought these charges and won. Kathy had always been a strong defender of citizens's rights under the First Amendment to the Constitution, and the Florida Supreme Court agreed with her argument, ruling that a police officer cannot be the only one offended by a performance, and that her performances were protected under the First Amendment.

Porn career

Always a trend setter, and a groundbreaker within the adult-entertainment industry, from her torrid performances that brought new heights to realism to her groundbreaking shaved pubic area, which she initiated in 1985, Kathy has been the most sought-after adult performer for years. She branched out to escorting as it provided her with a more personal and more enjoyable experience, more so than performing in videos.

Her adult film Naked Scandal was based on her escapades in South Florida. This adult video, the first of two parts, was shot on film, as was the second part, and she received the largest salary for a single video to date. This video was a huge seller; indeed, in New York alone, just 2 video stores sold over 10,000 copies. She appeared in over 20 pornographic films, each capitalizing on her fame by using her name in the title, a first in the adult industry. Each of her videos reached number 1 on the sales and rental charts, compiled by AVN. She was the star of one of the very first Adult Video Games, Poker Party, and also starred in a "slasher movie" titled Creep. Kathy wrote a column for 3 years for the hard copy and web magazine Adult Stars Magazine, and was the winner for "Publisher's Choice" for two years in a row for her work with that magazine. She was also awarded, and likewise for two years in a row, the title of "Viewer's Choice" by SexFiles TV and Python Video in 2001.
