As far as I know, the term ''bukkake'' started in the mid 1980s in AVs. Before that, it was known as ''gansha''. ''Bukkake'' literally means "splash", and was, and is, used in non-sexual ways, such as [http://homepage3.nifty.com/emimama/bukkakemenn.html here], where it describes an ''udon'' noodle dish (ぶっかけ = ''bukkake''). I gather, though I've never read it specifically stated so, that ''gansha'' is a one-on-one act, while ''bukkake'' involves a group of men.
