Anna Semenovich
Anna Semenovich

Anna Semenovich (Russian: Анна Семенович, born March 1, 1980, in Moscow, Russia)[2] is a Russian glamour model and actress who became first known as a successful international figure skater. After her skating career she also was a television moderator[2] and a singer of the Russian girl group Blestyashchie (Блестящие - "The Brilliants").[4]

Name

Transliteration

First name

Anna's first name may also be mentioned as Anya or Ania (Аня). In Russian, it is common to use diminutive forms for nearly all first names, so she may also be called Anechka, Annushka or Anyuta (Анечка, Аннушка, Анюта), depending on how personal the writer wants to get.

Last name

The only correct transliteration of Anna's name into English without using diacritics is Semenovich.[5] Other variants of her name are due to incorrect transliteration.

Etymology

Middle name

Anna's middle name Grigor'evna (Григорьевна) is her father's name (отчество). Every Russian full name consists of given name, father's name and family name, so Anna's full name is: Anna Semenovich, daughter of Gregory.

Last name

Although her last name leads some English native speakers to inappropriate comments on bulletin boards, the root of Semenovich has nothing to do with any kind of human secretion - it is a simple derivation of the Russian form of Simon (Семён). As this kind of word formation is not very widespread among Russian family names, it can be supposed that Anna has some South Slavic ancestors - including a person called Simon.

Modelling Work

General

Anna does not have a typical "model career". The photo series in different men's magazines are more a result of her public presence as a figure skater, singer and actress.

Photographers, websites and studios

Besides appearing in a great variety of tabloids and magazines of all kind, Anna has worked with

Models

Anna has worked with the following big bust models:

Personal info

Measurements

In an interview by the Russian edition of Maxim, Anna gives her measurements and mentions that her bra size is a (Russian) 5.[3] The numbers of Russian bra sizes represent cup sizes: 1 for A, 2 for B etc.[6] Together with her given bust measurement of 97 cm (38,2 in), it is possible to calculate her bra size:

38 in - 5 (E Cup) = 33[7]

As US band sizes cannot be uneven,[8] her bra size is 34E (75E).

In a later interview with the Russian magazine XXL, when asked to put an end to the discussion if she wears a 5 or 6 size bra, Anna says that she most likely wears a 5, but sometimes even a 6 (F cup), depending on her mood.[9]

Although Anna always states that her breasts are real and that she inherited them from her mother,[3] this topic became discussed when she had to go to hospital in 2007 for suspicion of a heavy infection poisoning her organism. Paparazzi were waiting putside when she left the hospital with X-ray images in her hands. The photos were published by the Russian tabloid Твой ДЕНЬ (Your Day) who immediately claimed to have spotted breast implants on the X-rays. The article states:

"На рентгеновских снимках грудной клетки поп-дивы отчетливо заметны имплантаты – два светлых круга идеальной формы.
– Анна очень переживала, что ее тайна станет известна еще кому-нибудь, – рассказывает лечащий врач. – Мы успокоили ее, отдали все сделанные снимки, сказав, что она может делать с ними все что угодно. Забрав компромат на свою грудь и медицинскую карту, Семенович, веселая и довольная, отправилась домой."[10]
Translation: "On the thorax X-ray images of the pop diva, there are clearly visible implants - two bright circles of perfect shape.
– Anna was very anxious that her secret might become known to even more people, – tells the attending physician. – We calmed her, gave her all the images made, saying that she could do with them whatever she wanted. After taking the compromising evidence and even the patient data sheet to her breast, Semenovich, happy and satisfied, went home."

A comparison of this text with the published paparazzi shoots (photos 1-3) and real thorax X-ray images (photos 4 and 5) reveals several points that raise serious doubts:

  • No doctor would give an interview to paparazzi and tell them facts about a patient.
  • Anna's X-ray shows only one thing that could be identified as a circle, not two.
  • While the upper part of the X-ray image in photo 1 could actually show a spine, the lower part does not fit at all and seems to be a second image showing something completely different.
  • The form, shape and background of the supposed breast implant on Anna's X-ray does not correspond at all with that on picture 5.

The article in Your Day does not provide any usable evidence at all. Furthermore, the story allegedly told by the attending physician is highly questionable and most probably just invented.

This article therefore follows Anna's own statement that her breasts are natural.

Biography

Early years

Anna is half Ukrainian.[1] She was born on March 1, 1980, in Moscow and began ice skating at the age of three. After finishing secondary school, she studied at the Moscow State University of Physical Education (Московская Государственная Академия Физической Культуры) from which she graduated with an International Master in figure skating and ice dancing.[2]

Figure skating

Anna Semenovich with Roman Kostomarov

Her career as a figure skater was very successful. She performed with Maxim Kachanov (Максим Качанов), Vladimir Fedorov (Владимир Федоров, 1995-1999), Roman Kostomarov (Роман Костомаров, 1999-2000) and Denis Samokhin (Денис Самохин, 2001), being a medalist at several national and international championships.[2] In 1998, she moved to the United States.[1]

In 2001, Anna had to undergo an operation after a meniscus injury. This was the official end of her sports career. In a later interview she mentioned that her meniscus trauma was not the only reason for her to quit:

"For example, the judging is prejudiced in figure skating. It is not a secret for anyone, we saw it even in last Winter Olympic Games. Somehow to get up in the ranks one needs connections. I did not have those. Therefore, although our pair was second in the Russian rankings after Il'ya Averbukh and Irina Lobacheva, we were seldom in first place. For example, it was very insulting, when I skated in international competitions with Denis Samokhin, and the other contenders skated with serious mistakes. They even fell down. But in the end, we were only in second place, and they in the first. I was tired of such unfair refereeing."[1]

At the age of 21, Anna moved back to Russia.[2]

Television

She became a sports moderator and worked for different channels, later also including the music program on ТВС (TVS) and the shows Утро (Morning) and Ночь (Night) on СТС (STS).[2]

In 2006, Anna started playing the role of Liza in Папа на все руки (Daddy of all trades), a Russian adaption of the successful American sitcom Home improvement by Buena Vista.

In 2007, Anna started starring in Вся такая внезапная (All of a sudden), another Russian adaption of an American sitcom (Suddenly Susan by Warner Bros.).[11] She plays the character of Alexandra Strelkina, an attractive journalist who writes a column about the life of an unmarried lonely girl for the fictional glossy magazine Шик и блеск (Chic and Glitter).[12]

Anna has played in the following television serials:[13]

Music

In 2001, parallel to her career as a sports channel moderator, Anna's boyfriend at that time, Daniel Mishin (Даниил Мишин), convinced her to take up singing.[1] They created a group called Ангелы Чарли (Charlie's Angels) which was produced by Daniel. Although the group had a few successful performances at places in Moscow, recorded an album and released a video,[2] the project had to be cancelled due to lack of financial resources.[1]

Anna then became anchorwoman at СТС (STS). In 2003, STS was producing a pilot and invited the girls of Blestyashchie. As a member of the group, Irina Luk'yanova (Ирина Лукьянова) had just left because she got pregnant,[4] the producer suggested Anna to come to a casting, which she did. Two weeks later, she received a call and was told to immediately come to the studio in order to join the recording sessions, because two days later the group was to go on tour.[1]

Anna recorded two albums with Blestyashchie:

  • Восточные сказки (Oriental fairy tales, 2005) and
  • Апельсиновый рай (Orange paradise, 2003).

In the beginning of 2007, Anna left Blestyashchie due to health issues, but started to work on her own solo career.[2] In May 2008, Swedish pop star Arash released a single with her, featured on the compilation Союз (Union), vol. 42:

  • Arash feat. Anna Semenovich: На моря (At the sea, 2008).[14]

Cinema

Anna Semenovich in Hitler's kaput!

Anna's career as a film actress started in 2004 with an uncredited cameo appearance in the Russian blockbuster Ночной дозор (Night Watch): She was a singer of the girl group of Alisa Donnikova (Алиса Донникова), played by Zhanna Friske (Жанна Фриске). The girl group was actually Blestyashchie, but was not credited either. While Zhanna Friske also performed in the sequel Дневной дозор (Day Watch, 2006),[15] Anna Semenovich did not appear in this motion picture anymore.

Гитлер капут! (Hitler's kaput!) from 2008 is a spy comedy and the first film to feature Anna Semenovich in a lead role. In an interview, Anna admitted that she was very nervous before the first kiss with her co-starring partner Pavel Derevyanko (Павел Деревянко).[16]

Anna has played in the following motion pictures:
