Angela Raiola (born June 30, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, died February 18, 2016) is an American television personality and businesswoman. Raiola is best known by her alias, as Big Ang. Raiola's television career was launched by the VH1 reality series Mob Wives, and further expanded on her spin-off show, Big Ang. Raiola is the niece of the now deceased Salvatore "Sally Dogs" Lombardi, a captain in the Genovese crime family.
Early Years
Raiola was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, with her two sisters and four brothers. Raiola's lifestyle has been largely influenced by the mob, as she associated herself with mobsters, but has maintained her independence as a single mother.[3] In 2001, Raiola was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York City Police Department, as a result of an undercover operation, which revealed that Raiola was an associate within a major drug ring. Raiola pled guilty to accept a lesser sentence, under which she was ordered probation and a drug rehab program. [4]
Television Career
Raiola made her debut on television, as she joined the cast of Mob Wives during the second season in January 2012. Raiola quickly became a hit, as she emerged as the show's "comic relief and go-to confidante".[5] Raiola's own ability to carry a show and her popularity among the viewers led VH1 to launch a spin-off show on her. In July 2012, Big Ang premiered on VH1's airwaves. Currently, Raiola is the co-owner of the Drunken Monkey bar in the West Brighton section of Staten Island, New York.
Image
Raiola's nickname Big Ang essentially characterizes her image and looks. Raiola has gone under the knife many times for many parts of her body. Raiola has had breast augmentations, lip injections, liposuction and abdominoplasty. Some have noted that her plastic surgeries have become her own obsession with her looks. Raiola had her first breast augmentation in 1985; during her first pregnancy, Raiola confessed that her breasts became extremely large, that reached a 42J size. After having children, Raiola's breasts shrunk and decreased in size, so she went under her second augmentation, in which she removed her old implants and replaced them with saline implants. In 2005, she underwent her third and last breast augmentation, after which she maintained a J cup size.[6]
