Template:WikimediaCommons/doc

This is a documentation subpage for Template:WikimediaCommons (see that page for the template itself).
It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This template inserts a link to a Wikimedia Commons page.

Usage

If a model has media files on Wikimedia Commons, you can add a link to the External links section of an article by inserting either:

• {{WikimediaCommons|<model name>}} for a gallery on Commons with the given name
• {{WikimediaCommons|Category:<model name>}} for the category on Commons with the given name
• {{WikimediaCommons}} for the category on Commons with the same name as the article

If a model has media files on Wikimedia Commons, its category always exists there but "galleries" (i.e. "article" pages where media is layed out a certain way) do not necessarily exist.

Examples

For Hillary Scott:

• {{WikimediaCommons|Hillary Scott}} inserts a link to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Scott
• {{WikimediaCommons|Category:Hillary Scott}} inserts a link to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hillary_Scott
• {{WikimediaCommons}} inserts a link to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hillary_Scott
