Alice Amter is a British actress who grew up in children's home owned by an aunt and uncle of hers in Warwick New Road, Birmingham and is best known for her character Mrs. Koothrappali in the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Later raised in Birmingham by a German Mother, she attended Milverton Junior and Infant School and she received a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages and International Relations at Wolverhampton University. Amter has lived in many places, including England, France, Germany, in the early 1990s in Japan, where she taught English, and the United States and as a result she can speak English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. She moved to Los Angeles, in the early 1990s. Despite being best known for playing an Indian character, Amter has no Indian ancestry.
