Anna Semenovich (Анна Семенович, born March 1, 1980, in Moscow, Russia)[2] is a Russian international figure skater, glamour model, television moderator and actress.[2] She also performed as a singer in the Russian girl group Blestyashchie (Блестящие - "The Brilliants").[4]
Biography
Anna Semenovich was born on March 1, 1980, in Moscow and is half Ukrainian.[1] Semenovich's first name (Аня) can also be rendered "Anya" or "Ania" . In Russian it is common to use diminutive forms for first names, so she may also be called "Anechka" (Анечка), "Annushka" (Аннушка) or "Anyuta" (Анюта), depending on how familiar the writer wants to get. The only correct transliteration of Anna's family name into English without using diacritics is "Semenovich".[5] Other variants of her name are due to incorrect transliteration. Semenovich's middle name Grigor'evna (Григорьевна) refers to her father's name (отчество). Russian full names consist of the given name, father's name and family name, so Semenovich's full name means: "Anna, daughter of Gregory, Semenovich." Although her last name leads some English native speakers to make inappropriate comments on bulletin boards, the root of Semenovich has nothing to do with any kind of human secretion. It is a derived from the Russian form of "Simon" (Семён). As this is not a very common Russian family name, it can be inferred that Semenovich has South Slavic ancestors - including a person called Simon.
Figure skating

Semenovich began ice skating at the age of three. After finishing secondary school, she studied at the Moscow State University of Physical Education (Московская Государственная Академия Физической Культуры) and graduated with an International Master in figure skating and ice dancing.[2] She had a very successful career as a figure skater and was a medalist at several national and international championships. She performed with Maxim Kachanov (Максим Качанов), Vladimir Fedorov (Владимир Федоров, 1995-1999), Roman Kostomarov (Роман Костомаров, 1999-2000) and Denis Samokhin (Денис Самохин, 2001).[2] In 1998, she moved to the United States.[1] In 2001, Semenovich had to undergo an operation after a meniscus injury. This was the official end of her sports career. In a later interview she mentioned that her meniscus trauma was not the only reason for her to quit:
- "For example, the judging is prejudiced in figure skating. It is not a secret for anyone, we saw it even in last Winter Olympic Games. Somehow to get up in the ranks one needs connections. I did not have those. Therefore, although our pair was second in the Russian rankings after Il'ya Averbukh and Irina Lobacheva, we were seldom in first place. For example, it was very insulting, when I skated in international competitions with Denis Samokhin, and the other contenders skated with serious mistakes. They even fell down. But in the end, we were only in second place, and they in the first. I was tired of such unfair refereeing."[1]
Post-figure skating

In 2001, at the age of 21, Semenovich moved back to Russia.[2] She became a sports moderator and worked for different channels, later also including the music program on TVS (ТВС) and the shows Morning (Утро) and Night (Ночь) on STS (СТС).[2]

During the time she was working as a sports channel moderator, Semenovich's boyfriend, Daniel Mishin (Даниил Мишин), convinced her to take up singing.[1] They created a group called Charlie's Angels (Ангелы Чарли) which was produced by Mishin. Although the group had a few successful performances in Moscow, recorded an album and released a video,[2] the project had to be cancelled due to lack of financial resources.[1]
Semenovich then became anchorwoman at STS (СТС). In 2003, STS was producing a pilot and invited the girls of Blestyashchie. As a member of the group, Irina Luk'yanova (Ирина Лукьянова) had just left because she got pregnant,[4] the producer suggested Semenovich to come to a casting, which she did. Two weeks later, she received a call and was told to immediately come to the studio in order to join the recording sessions, because two days later the group was to go on tour.[1] With Blestyashchie, Semenovich recorded two albums, Orange Paradise (Апельсиновый рай , 2003), and Oriental Fairy Tales (Восточные сказки, 2005).

Semenovich's career as a film actress started in 2004 with an uncredited cameo appearance in the Russian blockbuster Night Watch (Ночной дозор). She appeared as a singer in Alisa Donnikova's (Алиса Донникова, as Zhanna Friske Жанна Фриске) girl group. The group was actually Blestyashchie, uncredited in the film. While Zhanna Friske also performed in the sequel Day Watch (Дневной дозор, 2006),[6] Anna Semenovich did not return in this film. In 2006, Semenovich began acting the role of Liza in Daddy of All Trades (Папа на все руки), a Russian adaption of Buena Vista's U.S. sitcom Home Improvement.
At the beginning of 2007, Semenovich left Blestyashchie due to health issues, and started to work on her own solo career.[2] She starred in the television production All of a Sudden (Вся такая внезапная), another Russian adaption of an American sitcom (Warner Bros' Suddenly Susan).[7] She played the character Alexandra Strelkina, an attractive journalist who writes a column about the life of an unmarried lonely girl for the fictional glossy magazine Chic and Glitter (Шик и блеск).[8]
The film Hitler's Kaput! (Гитлер капут!, 2008) is a spy comedy and the first film to feature Anna Semenovich in a lead role. In an interview, Semenovich admitted that she was very nervous before the first kiss with her co-star Pavel Derevyanko (Павел Деревянко).[9] In May 2008, Semenovich joined Swedish pop star Arash in the single release At the Sea (На моря), which was also featured on the compilation Union (Союз) vol. 42.[10]
Anna Semenovich's bust
Measurements
In an interview with the Russian edition of Maxim, Semenovich gave her measurements and mentioned that her bra size is a Russian 5.[3] Russian bra size numbers represent cup sizes: 1 for A, 2 for B etc.[11] Together with her given bust measurement of 97 cm (38.2 in), it is possible to calculate her bra size:
- 38 in - 5 (E Cup) = 33[12]
As US band sizes cannot be uneven,[13] her bra size is 34E (75E).
When asked to put an end to the discussion if she wears a 5 or 6 size bra in a later interview with the Russian magazine XXL, Semenovich replied that she usually wears a 5, but sometimes a 6 (F cup), depending on her mood.[14]
Natural or silicone?
Although Semenovich has always stated that her breasts are real and that she inherited them from her mother,[3] this topic became a subject of discussion when she had to go to hospital in 2007 for suspicion of a heavy infection poisoning her organism. Paparazzi were waiting outside when she left the hospital with X-ray images in her hands. The photos were published by the Russian tabloid "Твой ДЕНЬ" (Your Day) which immediately claimed to have spotted breast implants on the X-rays. The article states:
- Translation: "On the thorax X-ray images of the pop diva, there are clearly visible implants - two bright circles of perfect shape.
- – Anna was very anxious that her secret might become known to even more people, – tells the attending physician. – We calmed her, gave her all the images made, saying that she could do with them whatever she wanted. After taking the compromising evidence and even the patient data sheet to her breast, Semenovich, happy and satisfied, went home."
A comparison of this text with the published paparazzi shoots (photos 1-3) and real thorax X-ray images (photos 4 and 5) reveals several points that raise serious doubts:
- No doctor would give an interview to paparazzi and tell them facts about a patient.
- Semenovich's X-ray shows only one thing that could be identified as a circle, not two.
- While the upper part of the X-ray image in photo 1 could actually show a spine, the lower part does not fit at all and seems to be a second image showing something completely different.
- The form, shape and background of the alleged breast implant on Semenovich's X-ray do not correspond at all with that on picture 5.
Since the Your Day article does not provide any conclusive evidence and the story allegedly told by the attending physician is highly questionable and possibly invented, this article accepts Semenovich's own statement that her breasts are natural.
Works
Modelling Work
Semenovich's career as a model does not follow that of a typical glamour model, since her appearances in men's magazines are a result of her public persona as a figure skater, singer and actress. She has appeared in many tabloids and magazines of all kind, and has worked with:

- Mikhail Korolev (Михаил Королев, website), Russia, for Пингвин (Penguin) magazine, Russia,
