Summer was raised in Tarzana, CA and the Encino section of Los Angeles.[4]She worked in Hollywood as an extra, photo double, stand-in, and production assistant in the mainstream entertainment industry prior to working in porn.[5][4] She worked on the CBS-TV series The Dukes of Hazzard for three years[5][4] when she was between the ages of 18 and 20.[6] After a porn career which ran from 1982 until 1993, where appeared in, and occasionally starred in, 114 loops and movies between 1981, and 1991, when she did her final three movies for Erotic Video Network. [4] Karen returned to the industry after 21 years, this after she ran into Nina Hartley, who encouraged her to resume her adult film career.[4] She currently hosts her own show on XXX Porn Star Radio.[5][4]
