Harrison Marks (born George Harris Marks on August 6, 1926, died June 27, 1997)[1] was a British glamour and pin-up photographer. Marks founded the Kamera group of magazines with his then partner Pamela Green in 1957. He also made a number of 8mm loop films and 5 feature films and would also gain world-wide recognition.

Magazines
Kamera
In 1957, Kamera the 7 x 5 inch, 36 page, monthly pocketbook, was started with the help of Pamela Green.[2] The photographs in Kamera were retouched, where necessary, to disguise any sign of pubic hair or genitals, to try and avoid the danger of falling foul of the British obscenity law. Kamera No.1 was sold out the first 5 week after it's release. Six weeks after No.1, Kamera No.2 was released and sold a quarter of a million copies. Where it was decided to make Kamera a monthly publication.[3] By the time No.5 came around, both George and Pamela were convinced to create other material with the Kamera name.

- Kamera Special an additional 64 page annual edition was published towards the end of 1957.
- Kamera Backstage, a 96 page pocketbook which would offer behind scenes look.
- The Best of Kamera, 80 pages of selected photographs from previous issues of Kamera
- Kamera Winter Special the last of the Kamera specials in 1967.
In 1959, the number of issues per year stated to decline then it's demise in 1968 due to competition such as Playboy, Penthouse and Russell Gay's Fiesta.
Solo
Solo was also a successful publication, which was a 32 page black and white format to Kamera, with a color cover. But only featuring just one model in each issue. It was launched in mid 1958, which ran parallel with Kamera to Issue No.61 (1968). Solo was not a monthly publication, but there were 61 consecutive issues.[4]
Kane
After going bankrupt in 1970. Harrison struggled to get back on his feet again, and has done everything to get a business up and running again. Going to a pub he recognized some people from the Soho magazine "Janus" that he'd produced some home movies for in the past. Their old owner and editor has died and none of the staff knew how to put together a magazine. Harrison was asked to help publish the magazine on unfimiliar territory. Since he spent the last 20 years taking photos of naked women while their buttocks were never purposely featured on his magazines. In Kamera, the buttocks were purposely ignored.[5] Since Kane featured CP based schoolgirls being spanked and Harrison was surprised how women would voulenteer on the subject. After some success with Janus, he decided to started own magazine on the subject in 1982. Kane was a monthly publication and spawned out home movies and videos. Kane's 100th issue was in 2007, after Harrison's death in 1997. His daughter took over as editor of the publication and it continues successfully today.
Other Magazines
- Femme appeared around the summer of 1958, featuring photographs from around the world of nude and semi-nude female models. Featured the work such as Roland Carre, Belorgey, and Bunny Yeager including Harrison Marks whose photos were used majority of the time. The magazine was a 64 black and white pages on 9½" x 6¾" format. Dissappointing sales would result from the larger format and the price, and later would be reduced to the 7"x 5" size. Then finally it's demise in 1968.[6]
- In Focus was also published in 1958 and was identical to Kamera. Only published as a monthly publication it ran to at least Issue No.21.
- US Glamour which ran for 13 issues by the end of the 1950s. Issue 5, would feature Betty Page who got a 48 page special pocketbook called "Betty Page Album".[7]
- Plaisir, Outdoor Strip, Ici Paris, Fotaq and Nus Francais formed by Gaffinia Publications, a 32 page style Kamera magazines featuring 3 well known photographers. Who briefly ran Femme for awhile.[7]
- Macabre which featured 3 models in a bedroom setting. 2 women in black leather outfits, and the other woman wearing a negligee, stocking and suspenders. June 1968 would see the last copies of this magazine.
Private Life
Harrison first got involved in glamour photography in 1953 after he met Pamela Green. Whom had a relationship with her. Though they were never married, this would be a disadvantage to her, since she wouldn't be able to the the rights to any of their work when splitting up in 1967,[8] then would later marry Toni Burnett. In 1970, George was declared bankrupt and lost just about everything he had.[1] Harrison is considered the British Russ Meyer, due to their fasination to large-breasted women. "Big tits sell" was Marks' motto.
