Tara was born in Sweden but was adopted by one of Mexico's ten most powerful families. She grew up in Mexico City.
Moon earned a Bachelors Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Electrical and Aerospace Engineering at the age of 18 in 1984.
