The deluge of soft porn or "Shakeela films", made on a shoestring budget of Rs. 20-25 lakhs, has ravaged the star system in the South Indian film industry.
Though initially compared to the 1980s sex siren of the South, Silk Smitha, Shakeela's rather bodacious contours managed to carve a unique niche for her in B-grade soft porn. Her first soft porn movie was Playgirls in which she starred as a supporting actress.
Career
Shakeela has stated her ambition to star in a movie someday with major actor Rajnikanth or Mohanlal. She has developed a major cult fan base of her own.
Only in the 2000s has she finally been accepted as a star in the Kollywood (Tamil based) and Tollywood (Telugu-based) movies with the release of mainstream Malayalam hit film Kinarathumbikal.
Shakeela has stated her plans to write an autobiography.
