A nipple piercing is a piercing, centered usually at the base of the nipple. Most popular jewellery designs used in nipple piercings are the ball closure ring and the barbell.

Although largely identified with gay BDSM and fetish circles since its modern introduction during the 1970s, nipple piercing has been gaining more mainstream female attraction due to mostly empirical evidence reporting enhancement of nipple and areola stimulation.[1]
