Where the listings are
West Bay is the centre of gravity — the run of towers and five-star hotels along the bay where most business visitors stay, and the obvious base for a hotel booking. The Pearl-Qatar, the reclaimed island just north, is more residential and is where a lot of the independents keep apartments. Lusail is the newer city further north again, and Al Sadd and Msheireb sit more central and local. Hotels and outcall
Outcall to a hotel room is the standard arrangement, and nearly all of it runs through the West Bay five-stars — among them the St. Regis, W Doha, Marriott Marquis, Four Seasons and Mondrian. The unwritten rules are simple: be a registered guest, keep things quiet at reception, and don't have anyone waiting around in the lobby. Incall is far less common here than in most cities; when it's offered at all, it's usually a Pearl-Qatar apartment.
Rates and payment
Prices are quoted in Qatari riyals (QAR), and visitors are frequently quoted in US dollars as well. Doha sits at the upper end for the Gulf — the clientele is overwhelmingly business and expat, and the rates reflect it. Settle the number before you meet, and pay in person, at the time. No genuine provider takes a deposit, a "booking fee" or a taxi advance up front — that request is the scam, every time.
Making contact
WhatsApp is how the city works. Phone calls often go unanswered; an opening text is what's expected. Keep that first message short and concrete — the date, the rough time, and your hotel or area is plenty. Don't push for explicit detail in writing, and don't be surprised when you don't get it: arrangements are kept deliberately vague until you're face to face. A polite, specific, low-drama message gets answered; a wall of questions doesn't.
Discretion
Qatar is socially conservative and the whole scene operates privately, so discretion isn't a nice-to-have — it's the entire etiquette. Be on time, be respectful, never discuss the arrangement in public or at a hotel desk, and never photograph anyone. The providers who last in this market are the ones who keep an extremely low profile, and they expect the same from the people they meet.
Staying safe
The way visitors most often get burned in Doha isn't a knock from the authorities — it's the up-front-payment scam, where a "profile" collects a deposit over WhatsApp and then vanishes. The defence is boring and total: stick to verified profiles whose photos have actually been checked, never send money in advance, and the moment something feels rushed or pressured, walk away — you owe nothing to a stranger on a messaging app. If the photos look too polished or turn up on other listings, treat that as your answer.
