Where the listings sit
Beirut is small enough to cross in twenty minutes but every quarter has its own character, and the listings follow it. Hamra and Ras Beirut out west are the busy, walkable, mid-market core — a lot of independents in short-let flats near the Raouché corniche. Verdun is the moneyed shopping strip, more agency-run, with quick hotel outcall to the seafront five-stars. Achrafieh on the east side is the premium, traditionally Christian quarter that draws the diplomatic and diaspora crowd, while Gemmayze and Mar Mikhael are the bar district, so demand there spikes late and runs off the night. Badaro is the quieter café neighbourhood, and Downtown is almost entirely hotel outcall. The live Beirut listings show who is actually around tonight rather than who posted a year ago.
Hotels and outcall
Outcall to a hotel is the default. The names that come up again and again are the Phoenicia and the InterContinental Phoenicia on the seafront, the Four Seasons in Downtown, and Le Gray on Martyrs' Square. The etiquette is the same as anywhere discreet: be a registered guest, keep the lobby clear, and handle the arrival room-direct. Agencies dispatch across the city in thirty to forty-five minutes outside the evening crawl; an independent coming from her own flat in Hamra or Achrafieh can be quicker.
Paying in a dollar economy
Since the 2019 collapse the Lebanese pound has stopped being a serious unit of account and the whole market prices in US dollars, cash, in small bills. Cards are rarely on the table. Expect roughly $100–$300 for an hour — Hamra independents at the lower end, Achrafieh and Verdun agencies at the top — with outcall to a Downtown five-star running $200–$500 and overnights from about $600. Agree the number before you meet and settle it in person; nobody legitimate needs it wired ahead.
Making contact
WhatsApp runs the city. Most listings confirm same day, and an opening text is what's expected — a call out of the blue usually goes unanswered. Keep the first message short and concrete: the day, a rough time, and your hotel or area is plenty. Don't push for explicit detail in writing; arrangements here stay deliberately vague until you're face to face.
Discretion and timing
Beirut is liberal by regional standards but the scene is still run quietly, and the people who last in it keep a low profile. If you're booking off the back of a night in Mar Mikhael or Gemmayze, remember that late demand is heavy and the better profiles get spoken for early in the evening. It also pays to keep half an eye on the news — the city has stretches of political tension, and during a flare-up a lot of activity simply pauses for a day or two.
Staying safe
The way visitors get caught in Beirut is almost never the authorities — it's the up-front-payment scam, where a "profile" asks for a deposit, a booking fee or taxi money over WhatsApp and then disappears. The defence is simple and absolute: stick to profiles whose photos have actually been checked, never send money before you meet, and treat any request for an advance as the scam itself.
