Christy Canyon (born Melissa Bardizbanian on June 17, 1966 in Pasadena, California, USA) is an American porn star.
Born to an Armenian American father and an Italian American mother, Canyon is the younger sister of author/editor Carla Sinclair. She holds an associate's degree in merchandise marketing. She has been married and divorced three times: to Tom Sinopoli (1993-1994), Jeremy Stone (1996-1999), and Grant (2003-2006/2007).
Adult Film Career
From 1984 to 1997, Canyon appeared in over 200 porno films. She has won several "best female performance" awards and is a member of the XRCO Hall of Fame.
Upon entering the adult film industry in 1984, Canyon quickly became a sensation with both performers and viewers alike. And quickly rose to become one of the most famous, and well known pornstars of the 1980's. Canyon is best known for her large natural breasts, voluptuous body, natural beauty, and for the fact that she had a significant amount of dark brown pubic hair. Which contributed to her fame, and was something Canyon more or less kept all thru her career. As she is seen in various films from the 1980's to the mid 1990's with varying degrees of pubic hair/bush. Which by the 90's, was atypical among porn actresses.
Canyon primarily engaged in standard adult fare consisting of vaginal intercourse, oral sex, lesbian encounters, and small party group sex during her career. Christy did one anal scene in Swedish Erotica 4, Volume #13, Chapter #11.
She came on the scene at about the same time as Traci Lords, and the two of them almost immediately challenged reigning porn queen Ginger Lynn Allen for the top position in the business. By 1987 Traci was gone - having left the industry after it was discovered she was underage when she made most of her films - and Christy was establishing herself as the #1 fan draw.
Unfortunately, Christy then decided she needed a break from the industry following the Lords fiasco, and took a 3 year hiatus where she explored other personal interests. In 1989, Christy returned to porn, but only exclusively for her own company, Canyon Video. Which produced such titles as; I dream of Christy, The Coming of Chisty among others. And unlike her previous run with various porn companies of the past, Canyon returned as something of a business woman. Calling her own shots, recieving generous royalties from video sales, as well as personally choosing the actors and actresses she most wanted to work with. It was also during the Canyon Video era, where Canyon cultivated a taste for well endowed male pornstars, and subsequently selected only to work with the male porn actor pool who were extremely well hung.
After a year with Canyon Video, Christy signed with Vivid Video following a very lucrative offer, reportedly one of the most generous contracts at that time, and quickly became even more popular under the Vivid brand. A few years later, Canyon decided to take a break from being a Vivid Contract Girl, and explore the world of erotic dancing, which she enjoyed immensely according to her book. But only after a year of dancing, Canyon returned as a Vivid Contract Girl, and began making films in order to become even more of a draw in the dance circuit. Upon re-entering the industry during the mid 1990's, Christy quickly found out that the male porn talent pool had dramatically expanded during her dancing hiatus, with many new young, chisseled and well endowed porn actors who were not present during Canyon's previous stints, being quite vocal about wanting to work with the legend. Naturally, Canyon quickly sought out these men, and went on to star in several highly successful films for Vivid.
It was also during in what turned out to be Canyon's final stint in the industry that anal sex was becoming more and more popular, and which was later alluded to by Canyon in interviews several years later that she regularly engaged in anal sex with her male co-stars offscreen. Close up shots of Canyon's noticeably enlarged asshole during her sex scenes at this time give credit to these comments.
In a recent interview on Taylor Wane's radio show, Christy revealed that although she had "safe sex" on camera with all of her male co-stars during her time with Vivid in the mid 90's, having safe sex wasn't really something she particularly practiced in her private life back then, and that she had unprotected sex with every one of her male co-stars off camera prior to their filmed sex scenes. Curiously, she specifically mentioned well endowed British porn stud, Mark Davis (who is also one of the few uncircumsized actors in porn) as one of these men. Suggesting to viewers that she really enjoyed her off screen affairs with him.
Christy has also mentioned other well endowed porn actors such as Peter North, John Dough, and Ron Jeremy as co-stars she has enjoyed working with.
Retirement
Canyon retired and returned to films several times during her career, mainly due to changes in her marital status. Currently, she is retired from performing in films but still has an adult-related career, concentrating on her web site, working as a host for Playboy Radio, and selling merchandise on eBay. In 2003, she published her autobiography, Lights, Camera, Sex (ISBN 0-9727470-0-1). In November 2005, she appeared as a judge on the first episode of Jenna's American Sex Star. Currently she is writing the second volume of her autobiography, tentatively titled "Danger, Curves Ahead."

- Retired in the mid 1980s, but returned to form "Canyon Video" in the summer of 1989. All of Christy's "Canyon Video" titles were widely successful, but she ultimately chose to return to Vivid after about a year with "Canyon Video".
- In her autobiography Lights, Camera, SEX!, Canyon notes that the popular, and extremely well endowed Italian porn star, Rocco Siffredi attempted several times to add her to his rather large list of sexual conquests. Although initially interested, Canyon later changed her mind about sex with Siffredi. However, Rocco was persistant on a sex scene between himself and Canyon. Eventually, thru speaking with various director's Canyon typically worked for, Rocco was granted the scene. Unfortunately, Christy had decided to retire from Vivid (the second time in her career) the very next day, ending any possibility of a scene between Siffredi and Canyon. However, hard core photos of Canyon having sex with Siffredi, posted on several Internet sites, seem to contradict these claims.
