Early life, military service

Johnni was born in 1968 in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of 4 girls. She was raised Catholic and attended catholic schools as a child. She describes her household as being one in which sex and sexuality was not discussed. Her mother is Italian.

After earning an advanced degree in Psychology from Illinois State University in 1990, she enlisted in the U.S. Army. She was eventually stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina and participated in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. During her years in the military she became a Parachute Jumpmaster and an Expert Field Medic.

It was during this time that she met her husband David Johnson (a.k.a. Michael) who was a drill sergeant. They were married in October of 1995. It's also during this time that Johnnie began experimenting with the swinger lifestyle, and bisexuality. She was honorably discharged from the Army on 1 May 1996 with the rank of Captain. She and her husband then relocated to Los Angeles, CA. Johnni and David divorced in April of 2002.

Adult film career

Johnni acted in 6 pornographic film scenes before leaving the Army, each of which were attended by her then husband David. The scenes were not distributed for wide-spread release until after her discharge in 1996, at which time David became her manager. From then on, Johnni stipulated in her contractual agreements with the adult film production companies she worked with, that David must be allowed to be present during production. One of the films, made at that time, had Johnni doing an anal gang-bang scene with four black men dressed in military fatigues, it is referred to by many in the military as "Johnni's recruiting film."

Her first official adult film appearance was in Anal Maniacs 4 (1996). Since that film she has been in nearly 300 adult movies, even having a compilation of some of her work produced by Adam & Eve Productions entitled Adam & Eve Signature Series Vol.2: Johnni Black. Her films fall into the sub-categories of Hardcore, Anal, Lesbian, Busty, Gonzo, Group, DP and Bondage.

In 1997 she was nominated for the Best New Starlet Award by the Cyberspace Adult Video Review (CAVR). She won the Hottest Star Award from CAVR two years in a row, 1997 and 1998. Also in 1998 she won the Adult Video News (AVN) Award for Best New Starlet.

In addition to her prolific adult film acting career, Johnni formed a production company called Johnni Black Productions (JB Productions). She has directed two adult films, both in 1998, Rubber Riders and Chasin' Pink. Johnni also has two product lines bearing her name, Johnni Black's Sensual Hot Wax and Johnni Black's Anal Beads, both still in production.

In 2002, after her divorce, Johnni left Los Angeles and the adult film industry and moved back to Chicago. She now works for a Chicago law firm running the office.
