Cathy grew up in a small town in New York before moving to Daytona Beach, Florida where she worked for Hooters for 7 years. She also began modelling for posters and magazines before being approached by a close friend to work as a wrestling valet on the Independent circuit. She and her friend began training together and worked all over the Florida State.

Cathy's most prominent time on the independent circuit was in the IWF as Cousin Brandy Mae where she was valet of Hillbilly Cuzin Ray and later The Tennessee Mountain Boys. Their characters were that of "hick" types and were popular with fans.
