In recent years the FDA has decided that the use of so-called "silly string" implants such as Chelsea's in breast augmentation surgery should be discontinued in the United States, until further studies on their safety and effectiveness have been carried out. Because of the FDA intervention, only a small number of women in the world still have the "silly string" implants.
