Lingerie tape (also known as cleavage tape, fashion tape and tit tape) is a double-sided adhesive tape used to keep a garment in place that would otherwise be likely to produce wardrobe malfunctions like nipple or boob slips.
It is often used by celebrities who want to wear garments with deep cleavage or loose-fitting clothes at official events. However, the feeling of security provided by the tape often leads to the very wardrobe functions that were to be avoided when the wearer moves naturally and does not think of the risky nature of the garment anymore.
On September 12, 2006, for example, Nicola Tappenden's nipple was exposed when the tape did not hold the front of her dress while she arrived at the UK premiere of Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby at the Empire cinema in London, UK.
On January 30, 2005, Pamela David fixed her loose-fitting and wide open dress with lingerie tape when she visited the Chilean TV show Noche de Juegos (Night of Games). The dress remained in place, but the tape became visible at several occasions.
