Jamosa (born January 21, 1983 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese urban and R&B singer and songwriter. Making her recording debut in 2000 in the music business was as a member of the now defunct girl group AZIZ, She recorded under the Avex Trax/Rhythm Zone record label.[1]

Biography

Starting out as backup singer on a Michael Jackson Japan tour as a teen, in 2000, Jamosa had joined the all-female rap group, AZIZ. While in the group, they released a song called "Mama". The song was featured in the American film, Little Nicky in 2000. In 2001, She decided to leave the group and take a chance on becoming a solo artist. She returned to Japan and signed a record deal with Island Records.

On November 11, 2002, Jamosa made her solo debut. She released the mini album, Reminiscing. After staying with Island Records for a year, She decided to leave Island and signed another record deal with Culture of Asia Records in 2003. Under Culture of Asia, she released the three following singles; "Shake It Shook It", "So Good So Nice", and "Ienai yo". She also released a second mini album called, Standing Strong. After the release of her third single, "Ienai yo", Jamosa once again switched record labels, signing a record deal with Toshiba EMI. She made her major record label debut with single "Dream" for the Toshiba EMI label in August Her debut LP, One was released in 2007, also by Toshiba EMI. After the move to Virgin Music record label that same year, she released a second album, Cry, in 2008. Her third LP, Red, was released in 2009.

Trivia

Being of Tawianese and Japanese descent, her parents named her Jamosa, after the Ilha Formosa Island.
