Charlotte Maria Church (born Charlotte Maria Reed; 21 February 1986) is a Welsh singer-songwriter, actress and television presenter. She rose to fame in childhood as a classical singer before branching into pop music in 2005. By 2007, she had sold more than 10 million records worldwide including over 5 million in the United States. In 2010 she was reported to be worth as much as £11m (though one 2003 report quoted her worth at £25m).

She hosted The Charlotte Church Show on Channel 4 for three seasons (2006 to 2008). On 13 December 2006, Church won the Best Female Newcomer award for the show at the British Comedy Awards, which she said made her feel "over the moon".[2]

Church released her first album in five years, titled Back To Scratch, on 17 October 2010.[3]

She is also mentioned as one of the Bohemians in Ben Elton's musical We Will Rock You[4].

Family and personal life

In 2002, when she turned 16, Church left her family home because she felt "stifled...As far as I was concerned, I needed to be free...I just had to cut the ties. I was at an age where I thought I knew everything. I knew better and I knew what I was doing. They were just trying to protect me but I just saw that as holding me too tight."[5] She has since reconciled with her family, and now has a good relationship with her mother.

Church was in a relationship with rugby player Gavin Henson for five years, starting in 2005. She gave birth to their daughter Ruby in September 2007, and to their son Dexter in January 2009. Henson and Church split in June 2010[6], six weeks after Henson had proposed to Church with a two-carat heart-shaped diamond ring in Cornwall.[7]

Church met musician Jonathan Powell later in 2010, and began dating. In June 2017, she suffered a miscarriage. In October 2017, Church and Powell secretly got married at a register office in Cardiff, before blessing their marriage with an intimate ceremony in front of family and friends under a tree at their home in Dinas Powys.[8]

Church and Powell welcomed daughter Frida Simone in August 2020. Frida is their first child together, and Church's third child overall. Although Church had originally planned to give birth under a tree in their garden, when the weather changed they had to move indoors: "I labored under there overnight, which was beautiful, but then I had her screaming on the bathroom floor. Mother Nature came and went, 'Sit down, silly lady.'...I live next to a golf course, and I could really hear the golfers. As my noise started to up, I thought, 'This is not going to work.'"[9]
